Why Should You Regularly Replace Wiper Cutter?

The Lifespan of Wiper Cutters

The lifespan of wiper cutters usually depends on various factors, including frequency of use, weather conditions, and the quality of the wiper blades. Generally, the normal lifespan of wiper cutters is about 6 months to 1 year.

This is mainly because many situations in daily use can reduce the lifespan of wiper cutters. For instance, high temperatures and extremely cold weather significantly affect the wiper cutters' condition. It's advisable to replace them early or have one or two spare sets in advance.

The Actual Replacement Cycle of Wiper Cutters

Generally speaking, the replacement cycle of wiper cutters is about 1-2 years. If you are only replacing the wiper rubber strips, it may be necessary to replace them every six months to a year.

Why Wiper Cutters Do Not Last as Long as Specified

Wiper cutters usually have a shorter lifespan for the following reasons:

The first reason is dry wiping; dry wiping significantly wears down the wiper rubber strips.

The second reason is exposure to sunlight; exposure to sunlight ages and hardens the rubber strips, resulting in decreased performance.

The third reason is improper operations that could damage the wiper arm and wiper motor.

How to Determine Whether to Replace Wiper Cutters

First, observe the wiping effect.

Generally, if there are long streaks of water left after a wipe, it is mainly due to edge wear of the wiper rubber strips or debris on the windshield.

If the wipers skip and make a loud noise, the rubber strips are likely aging and hardening.

If there are large patches of water left after a wipe, it is most likely due to poor contact between the wipers and the windshield, deformation of the wipers, or insufficient pressure from the wiper frame.

Secondly, listen for unusual noises.

If the wiper motor suddenly becomes louder, it could be a sign of aging or failure.

From the perspective of noise and vibration detection, wiper motor failures can be categorized into four types: excessive rotor vibration, excessive electromagnetic vibration, abnormal rolling bearing noise, and abnormal worm-gear noise.

Apart from the wiper motor causing unusual noises, hardened wiper rubber strips, aging wiper arm frames, and loose screws can also cause wiper noises.

Therefore, if the wipers become noisier during operation, it is essential to check these components. Replace the wipers if necessary and repair the motor to reduce potential safety hazards.

Summary

In conclusion, the wiper cutters should generally be replaced every 1-2 years, but the actual need for replacement should be based on the wiper cutters' performance.

If the wiper cutters are not cleaning properly or making loud noises during operation, replacing the wiper cutters is the best choice for driving safety.
