EFI fuel pump module assembly is a combination of a electric fuel pump, a fuel gauge sending unit, a pressure regulator valve, a fuel tank pressure sensor. It is an important part of the electronic fuel injection system of automotive fuel system parts. Fuel pump and assembly's basic function is to provide fuel with certain pressure to the engine fuel injection system. Therefore, the quality of the EFI fuel pump assembly will directly affect the working condition of the fuel injection system.
Get the Prices of Fuel Pump Assemblies >As a type of car auto spares, the function of the automotive fuel pump is to suck out the fuel from the fuel tank, pressurize it and deliver it to the fuel supply pipe, and cooperate with the fuel pressure regulator to establish a certain fuel pressure. If it is broken, it will cause the fuel pump module assembly to collapse and the vehicle cannot be started; the fuel supply pressure is reduced, and there is no sound of the fuel pump running; the acceleration is weak, and there will be abnormal noises when driving; the engine fault light is on, the engine vibrates abnormally; it is difficult to start when starting, it takes a long time to turn on the vehicle.
Fuel pump module assembly failure can be determined by an on-board inspection.
Connect the fuel pump test terminal on the diagnostic base to the 12V power supply with a special wire;
Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position, but do not start the engine;
Unscrew the fuel tank cap, you can hear the sound of the fuel pump working, or you should feel the pressure when you squeeze the fuel hose with your hand;
If the working sound of the fuel pump cannot be heard or there is no pressure in the fuel inlet pipe, the fuel pump assembly should be repaired or replaced;
If the fuel pump fails to work, and the above inspections are normal, check whether the fuel pump circuit wires, relays, and fuses of the fusible link are open.
As a trusted and experienced auto spare parts company, we have to stress that you should note when disassembling the fuel pump, please release the fuel system pressure and turn off the electrical equipment. After removing the fuel pump and assembly, measure the resistance between the two terminals of the fuel pump, it should be 2~3Ω. Use the battery to directly energize the fuel pump, and you should hear the sound of the high-speed rotation of the fuel pump motor. Note: the energization time should not be too long.
The fuel pump assembly is a critical component of a vehicle’s fuel system. It is responsible for delivering fuel from the tank to the engine at the appropriate pressure required for performance demands. The fuel pump assembly is not just a pump; it includes other parts such as the fuel sending unit, strainer, and fuel pump motor, all of which work together to ensure that your vehicle’s engine gets the right amount of fuel at the right time.
The longevity of a fuel pump assembly can vary significantly depending on several factors. These include the make and model of the vehicle, the quality of the fuel used, the driving conditions, and how well the vehicle is maintained. However, on average, a fuel pump assembly should last between 100,000 to 200,000 miles. Some might even last the lifetime of the vehicle, while others may need replacement after only 30,000 miles.
It’s important to note that the fuel pump assembly is not typically a component that wears out quickly. It’s designed to last for a long time, but like any other mechanical part, it can fail prematurely due to various reasons. These can include consistently driving on a low fuel tank, which can cause the fuel pump to overheat, or using poor-quality fuel, which can lead to sediment build-up that wears out the pump.
When a fuel pump assembly starts to fail, it can exhibit symptoms such as sputtering at high speeds, loss of power during vehicle acceleration, engine stalling, engine not starting, or a whining noise from the fuel tank. If you notice any of these signs, it’s crucial to get your vehicle checked by a professional mechanic as soon as possible to avoid further damage.
While the fuel pump assembly is designed to last for many years and thousands of miles, its lifespan can be significantly influenced by factors such as vehicle maintenance, driving habits, and fuel quality. Regular vehicle maintenance and inspections can help ensure that the fuel pump assembly and other critical components are in good working condition, thereby extending their lifespan and ensuring optimal vehicle performance.
