Car lgnition coils are responsible for providing sparks to the spark plugs in a vehicle's engine. When there are issues with these coils, the spark plugs will not work properly, causing the fuel mixture in the cylinder to not ignite. This can result in loss of power and a vehicle running on fewer cylinders than normal.
When ignition coils start to malfunction, they will typically cause misfires and trigger engine warning lights. However, if the issue is not severe enough, the vehicle may not show any warning signs, and the loss of power may only be detectable during sudden acceleration. It is important to keep an eye out for these issues.
Most vehicles now have an ignition coil for each cylinder, whereas in the past, there was only one ignition coil, and the spark was distributed to each cylinder through a distributor. If the ignition coil failed in those older vehicles, the vehicle would not be able to travel.
Now, if one ignition coil fails, the vehicle can still run on fewer cylinders. This is a significant improvement, as in the past, a faulty car ignition coil would result in being stranded in the vehicle overnight.
To extend the lifespan of your ignition coils, it is important to use appropriate spark plugs and monitor the vehicle's water temperature. Using old spark plugs can increase the workload of the ignition coils, and high water temperatures can cause them to burn out.
Determining whether the ignition coils are damaged is straightforward. If the vehicle experiences abnormal engine shaking and loss of power during extended travel, the ignition coils may be to blame.
The vehicle shakes significantly while idling, and exhaust emissions are interrupted with a distinctive "puffing" sound.
When the vehicle reaches speeds below 2,500 RPM, it experiences significant shaking and struggles to accelerate. However, the issues disappear when the vehicle exceeds 2,500 RPM.
When the engine is operating, it shakes severely to the point of being noticeable to the driver. This is not the normal shaking associated with engine operation and is typically caused by failing ignition coils.
If only one auto ignition coil fails and the other cylinders are working correctly, the vehicle can still run without issue, but it can be damaging to the engine, engine mounts, and other components.
The function of the car ignition coil is to enable the spark plug to "generate a spark" and ignite the part of the mixed gas in the cylinder.
In fact, it is a transformer responsible for converting the low-voltage current of the vehicle into high-voltage electricity. Under normal circumstances, each cylinder is equipped with a set of ignition coils and spark plugs. The service life of auto ignition coils is generally 100,000 kilometers or even longer. Similarly, in the case of pencil coil ignition systems, the car ignition coil's primary function remains the same - converting low-voltage current into high-voltage electricity to generate sparks for the spark plugs. With proper maintenance and usage, the service life of pencil coil ignition systems can also reach approximately 100,000 kilometers or even longer.
